ASAP India is now deeply engaged with Know Your Rights India, an effort to establish a collaborative online encyclopedia of rights to help Indians make better use of their rights, benefits, and entitlements. KYRI organizers are developing a dedicated website. It will offer plain-language explanations of governmental norms and legal precedents that can be widely communicated.
Pilot project: KYRI is now engaged in generating content for the website covering four states: Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Odisha, and Kerala. Information pertaining to food entitlements, access to healthcare, employment entitlements and opportunities, and the rights of Dalits (former untouchables), tribal members and physically challenged persons are being collected for the four states. Some data has already been generated on Gujarat and Odisha, mostly on food entitlements. The rest will be generated soon, after which there are plans to upload most of the relevant information onto the website.
Web development: The domain name JanAdhikar.org has been registered specifically for KYRI. Jan means people and Adhikar means rights: JanAdhikar gives a grassroots slant to the idea of people’s rights.
Internships: KYRI is now expanding its team to include ten interns to develop the pilot project. The interns come with a rich set of skills from various disciplinary backgrounds. They are working from sites in India, the UK, Canada, and the United States.
