Journal ASAP Awards

Celebrating Excellence in Poverty Research
In the ongoing battle against global poverty, knowledge is our most potent weapon. The ASAP Book Awards represent more than just academic recognition, they are a beacon of hope, showing us pathways to understanding and addressing the complex challenges of poverty worldwide.
Our 2023 Awards highlight the extraordinary depth and breadth of poverty research. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors Else Øyen, a pioneering scholar whose decades of work have fundamentally reshaped our understanding of global economic disparities. The Book of the Year Award for Monographs was awarded to an exceptional team, Olivier De Schutter, Hugh Frazer, Anne-Catherine Guio, and Eric Marlier—for their groundbreaking work “The Escape from Poverty: Breaking the Vicious Cycles Perpetuating Disadvantage”. Published by Policy Press, this book offers a critical examination of the systemic barriers that trap communities in poverty.Complementing this work, Clemens Sedmak and Gottfried Schweiger’s “Handbook of Philosophy and Poverty” claimed the Edited Book Award. This volume demonstrates how philosophical inquiry can provide profound insights into poverty’s structural roots.Â
